Announcing GDPR Compliance

Antwerp, Belgium – 22th May 2018 – Skylegs is pleased to announce full GDPR compliance, the regulation requiring businesses to protect the personal data and privacy of EU citizens.

Skylegs and Data Protection

The General Data Protection Regulation has been built for companies that collect data on citizens in European Union countries. These companies, including Skylegs, need to comply strict new around protecting customer data by May 2018. GDPR is expected to set a new standard for consumer rights regarding their data, and companies are challenged as they put systems and processes in place to comply.

The new regulation goes further than simply harmonising national data protection laws across European Union. It also expands the reach of EU and introduces new significant requirements. Based on principles rather than rules, the new adjustments are developed for ensuring the protection against the data misuse and theft of an individual.

The provisions are consistent across all 28 EU member states, which means that companies have just one standard to meet within the EU. However, that standard is quite high and will require most companies to make a large investment to meet and to administer.

Data Protection has always been one of our top priorities

At the end of 2017, Skylegs was audited by Deloitte to find out which areas needed improvement technically and legally. We were happy to hear that we already had most of the requirements in place. On the basis of the report we made a pragmatic approach to address the findings. To give you some examples:

  • We made an inventory of our data, taking into account accessibility and highlighted the sensitive areas.
  • Our internal processes have been streamlined to cope with breach, misuse or fraude requests to our support.
  • A Data Protection Officer was appointed and a Data Protection Agreement template created.
  • Our general terms were amended and a privacy statement was added. All our users are requested to read and accept this via the platform.
  • We have set-up mechanisms to automatically delete data based on the retention requirements of EASA, our clients manuals and common sense.
  • Our users have the ability to request the removal of their data.
  • Opt-in and opt-out mechanisms have been added to the platform and newsletter.

Replacing a patchwork of EU national rules with a single regulatory framework with a global reach and penalties for those who fail to comply, the GDPR is said to be one of the most crucial regulation in the digital advertising. Skylegs is committed to delivering the highest quality and being a trusted partner to our clients. By investigating the GDPR compliance and it implications, we have made the extra step to move the entire industry towards greater trust and accountability.
